Sun Smart Scouts
All sections of Scouts get out and about and enjoy activities in the great outdoors! That's what is Scouting is all about.
One of the by products of this is that we need to be mindful of the risks of overexposure to UV rays and the long term damage that can be caused by continued sunburn 'events'.
The 1980's saw a successful public awareness campaign that instilled the mantra of "Slip, Slop, Slap" to remind us to put on a T-shirt, apply sunscreen, and put on a hat when we're outdoors enjoying fun filled activities.
This page gives you all the necessary information about UV radiation and how to balance the body's need for vitamin D with the risks of overexposure & sunburn (and it's long term side effects).
To add to the original Slip Slop Slap messages, we now add Seek (the protection of shade), and Slide (on a pair of sunglasses) as further was of protecting our skin from the risk of getting Skin Cancer.
