A combined team from 7th Chelsea-Aspendale and Mentone Scout Groups, were the aggregate winning Scout Group of the Bendigo Bank Challenge Perpetual Trophy at the VicScouts Brass Monkey Sailing Regatta.
Lake Boga Sea Scout Group teams came third, and the Branch teams had the second highest total of points, in this inaugural Brass Monkey Sailing Regatta.
The weather was fine at the newly filled Lake Eppalock over the last weekend in August for the Regatta which was run at the Bendgio Yacht Club, who also managed and controlled the five races on behalf of the VicScouts Sailing and Power Boating Team.
Some 20 Scouts and Venturers, from ten Scout formations, participated in this season starter Regatta, with sailing only. Competing on the water at the same time were 17 Leaders. The highlight was the prideful comment by some of the Scouts of beating their Leaders: sailing over the finish line ahead of their Adult Leaders.
The trophies were kindly donated by the Bendigo Bank. The Bendigo Bank Challenge Perpetual Trophy was presented to Group Leader Bruce Roberts at the Kingston District Annual Reports and Awards Presentation evening on 31 August by David Bucknell, Branch Activity Leader-Sailing and Power Boating.
