Ski TouringWhat does Victorian Branch Ski-touring Team do?

Our team, the Victorian Branch Ski-touring Team provides expert ski-tour Leaders to safely lead groups of Scouts or Venturers on cross-country skiing and/or snow-camping trips.

The team runs the IGLUTE weekend on Mt Stirling each August for Venturers - as an introduction to snow-camping and snowcraft generally - best understood as staying comfortable and safe in the cold, living and travelling on snow and ice surfaces.

Who Can GoSki Touring

The Ski-touring team can assist both Scouts and Venturer Units to plan and execute snow trips and snow camps.

Where do we normally go

Lake Mountain, Mt. Stirling, Mt Baw Baw, Mt. St.Gwinear, for day trips and overnight snow camping.

Mt Bogong, the Bogong High Plains beyond Falls Creek, Mt Feathertop for more serious multi-night trips.

Qualifications

We have qualified ski tour leaders based in North-East Victoria, Melbourne and in Gippsland,  so if you wish to include a ski-touring trip in your Venturer or Scout Activities program, send an email on the contact page expressing your interest.

The Ski-touring Team also assesses the competence of existing Scout or Venturer Leaders to be qualified Ski-tour Leaders at one of three levels: Day-tour Leader, Over-night tour Leader and Remote areas tour Leader. This is open to all Leaders.

Guidance

We can then discuss what you'd like to do and find one or more of us to help you with the planning of the trip, to be properly prepared and equipped for it and to come along to assist your own leaders in running the snow-related aspects of the trip from a technical viewpoint.

Safety

The ski-touring team has never had casualties of any consequence on its activities due to our focus on safety, managing the groups carefully whilst on-snow and staying prepared for weather-related or cold-related risks.
